We leave something out in the race to achievement if we forget to address our higher needs.
Most of us would like to have a lovely family, good kids, drive a nice car and live in a fine home; but what about our higher needs of esteem, love, belonging, safety and self-actualization?
These needs primarily fly under the radar to our most outward desires, and even though we may not discuss them they are needs that need to be fulfilled as well.
What if I told you that having a strong need for power and praise was just a symptom of a deeper need for esteem, and the strong need for material gain was to fill the void of wanting to belong and feel love. All desires turned outward to feel internal needs.
In my own life, when I’ve desired things and positions over relationships and people I was left empty and uninspired. When I began putting people over possessions and mission over position I found my purpose.
Dig Deep
Let me encourage you to dig deep when it comes to your relationships. You have a lot to give and you won’t know what you have until you give it away. Challenge your way of thinking by surrounding yourself with people who think different then you.
Love
Love with your whole heart and find a reason to see the good in people. Doing so is truly the best way to have your higher needs fulfilled.

Can we have both?

We were created by God to be Kings and Queens, heirs to a throne, but we chose money and popularity instead. We are starving for love and belonging and we don't know it.
In gathering information for my second book, I've come across some outstanding material that can assist us in explaining what the heck is going on with the world today?
The thesis that I am working to prove, the world is the way it is because we have forgotten that each other exist.
The young boy of a different race who is gunned down could just as well be my own brother. The young women exploited on the television screen for my entertainment could be my sister or daughter, both deserve better.
We have placed a large distance between ourselves, which has caused us to forget that we are in this together.
If history tells us anything, we tend to choose the preservation of ourselves over the person next to us. If true, what does the future hold and how long can this 'party' last?
I challenge you to look your truth in the eye, stare it down, and question its existence in relation to humanity. If it is solely focused on absolute consumption, reconsider, because we are in this together.

Mass incarceration, Tax-shelters For the Wealthy, School Loan Debt, Inequality, Donald Trumps Mouth and the Oregon Standoff are all examples of a society is shambles.
In order not to get swept away in the propaganda you must focus your mind and steady your feet.
You are playing to win and the vehicles that distribute, feed on, and magnify injustice are distractions. You play to win by fully empowering yourself by not waiting on anything or anyone to do it for you.
The way you do that is through knowledge and action.
Knowledge comes from the books you read and the company you keep. There are no more excuses holding you back from improving your life, the lives of your community, and the people you love.
Action is combining what you know with execution. Now you are able to charge ahead, do not look for permission or acceptance.
You are the catalyst and all the permission you will ever need to take full control of your life.
Why? Take a look around. Most people are waiting on everyone else to make life better for them. You understand that if it is to be you are the change agent.
The injustice will continue and throwing verbal rocks at your television will not change it. Turn off the television, get off social media, say 'no' to pity parties, and get to work.

9 AM: Committed
I wonder what would happen if I committed myself to my goals for the entire year? How would my life change if for 365 days I gave my passions and work everything I have to give? What about you? How would your life change?
Significantly I assume. Take this challenge with me.
My goals are simple.
· I will continue blogging about topics that are impactful, meaningful, emotionally charged, and counter cultural being more consistent; and I will complete my second book in 2016.
· I will speak at several youth conferences on the importance of abstinence, true freedom, God, ridding yourself of materialism, and what a year of Regeneration has done in my life (I have a few months left and my mind has been blown a number of times. Pride, control, and people pleasing are recovery issues).
· I will read 7 books this year: The Rise of the Creative Class (finish it), A Peoples History of the United States (finish it), Linchpin, John Rawlings: A Theory on Justice, Write Like Hemingway, The New Digital Age, The Guide to Understanding and Investing Money (if you have any money then you should know how to invest it. First, solid investment - yourself!)
· I will pray and read my Bible daily.
· I will develop deeper relationships with friends.
· I will expand and set a growth plan for my business.
That’s all I have for now. What about you? What have you been putting off due to resources, time, and focus?
Okay, well what if we uncovered the resources together by asking questions and getting specific? What resources do you need and what would you do if you received them?
We will have to dig deep to really focus and find the time by cutting some things out. I now schedule everything! For example, if I am on social media on my phone I set a 15-minute timer so I am not scrolling for hours.
It will take immense discipline and perseverance but next year will be here before you know it. Take a breath then, but for now just make the decision. Don't let me go at this alone.
Fortune favors action. – anonymous
