When I think about the pandemic and what it has created for most people the word distance comes to mind. I also think about the City of Dallas pre-pandemic, the noise of McKinney Ave on weekend nights, business mixers at the Ritz, and events that have been postponed “until further notice.” The whole thing saddens me.
As a self-proclaimed extrovert who loves her city and missed the unique encounter of meeting a new friend in the dimly lit halls of The Mansion on Turtle Creek something had to change.
I had an idea or in the words of my favorite writers “an idea had me”: Why not create a conversation? Find out what my friends in the business, art, and restaurant communities are up to? How are they coping with the pandemic? Any good television binges or book recommendations? How are they keeping their businesses alive? How are they personally responding to this weird moment in time? These questions and others overwhelmed me. There was only one thing left to do — start a podcast! Original, I know, but just maybe I can have a different kind of conversation with these leaders and tastemakers. I am a millennial, first-time mom, minority art, and food lover; from my worldview, unique conversations are bound to happen.
Dallas Business Podcast is about creating connection and clarity to first the human on the other side of the screen and then to a city that has given me everything. I was promoted up through the sport’s ranks working for the Texas Legends in Frisco, Texas, The Dallas Mavericks, and then the big call came to lead a sales team for a major sports organization in New York City. It is here, in Dallas, my dream was born to be the first woman majority owner of an NBA team (I wrote about it here), and then launched a speaking business accepting opportunities across the nation including West Point Military Academy, Ignite DFW, and many more. I locally toured my second book twice in partnership with Half Price Bookstore. I met and listened to stories from people all over the country. Dallas has nurtured the woman I am and it is my hope that this podcast confirms the best of us — that we are more alike than different, and our leaders, creatives, and entrepreneurs pave the way for us all to dig deep and uncover something to give our lives to. These people inspire me.
Season One of the Dallas Business Podcast kicks off with my dear friend Teresa Mackintosh, CEO of a technology company, Trintech. Teresa is a girl boss in every way, and after an almost three hour conversation the second time we met, I knew she was special. I also enjoyed conversations with old friends like Samir Dhurandhar, Head Chef and restauranteur of Nick & Sams Steakhouse, Blake Kimzey of Writing Workshops Dallas, and new friends such as Erin Cluley of the Erin Cluley Gallery and Hance Taplin, artist and creator of the streetwear brand By Way of Dallas. I am also joined by out-of-town guests like renowned oncologist and author Dr. Azra Raza. The show has something for everyone. Listen. Let me know what you think.
This season is also dedicated to my mother who lost her life to metastatic breast cancer in August. To learn more about our family story and support visit jlgreenmemorialfund.com.
