For starters, let me say that in the past I have envied the lives of other people – a lot! The habit was time consuming and left me worse off than I started. I've seen women with architectural correct homes and thought “sheesh, that house is a vision.” I have coveted the lives of some of this societies best dressed and what do I have to show for all that envy you ask? Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
The truth is when you desire the life, possessions, and status of other people the needle moves zero notches in your own life. So why do we do it? It's easy. During our outward gazing, we focus less on our own lives and the work it may take to make them better. Simple enough.
The weird part is we know, intellectually at least, the truth about what is shown to the world online. We know that it is the best part of us rather than the parts we want to hide, and still, the envy monster persist.
What to do next: If you seek freedom, listen up, I will only say this once. You have everything you need to be happy in this lifetime if you can learn to create the happiness you seek for yourself for others. You can’t outsmart the law of reaping and sowing which states, “you will reap what you sow.” If you are looking for a harvest where have you planted seeds? You and I will never know the private struggle, prayers, and sacrifices other people have endured to live the life they have today. The grace is in recognizing that you, at this moment, can take action to design and build the life you desire. You can create that “Instagram- worthy-life” if that is what you want.
The Bold Act of Becoming Yourself is about challenging you to a higher “want” that puts your closer to changing the world. The book will detail counteraction of someone who is solely focused on self to the person that wants to sow seeds of love, joy, and peace in their community, therefore, reaping them in their own lives.
